The Alberta Association of the Deaf Michael Rodda Award

Conditions:

  1. To be awarded annually to an undergraduate or graduate student who is deaf and who is entering or continuing in a ogram at the University of Alberta.
  2. Satisfactory academic standing (grade of 5 or better).
  3. Financial need.
  4. Involvement in deaf community activities (minimally, membership in Alberta Association of the Deaf*). 
  5. Preference will be given to residents of the Province of Alberta.
  6. Applicants must have a minimum 55dB hearing loss; sufficient deafness precluding the normal use of telephones.
  7. Priority shall be given to users of the sign language of the deaf.
    Others may be considered.
  8. Applicants must require interpreters as a primary mode of classroom communication support.

Please provide i) transcripts, ii) audiogram, iii) proof of membership in AAD, and iv) outline any additional involvement in the deaf community.

* Membership for AAD can be purchased through the Edmonton Association of the Deaf or the Calgary Association of the Deaf.

Residency Definition
A resident of Alberta is defined as a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident (Landed Immigrant) who has been continuously resident in the Provide of Alberta, or the Yukon, or the Northwest Territories for at least one year immediately before the first day of classes. Leaving the province temporarily while on vacation, for short-term employment or as a full-time student is allowed. See University Calendar section 13.2 or full details.

AAD Membership
When you buy a membership with the Edmonton Association of the Deaf or the Calgary Association of the Deaf, you automatically become a member of the Alberta Association of the Deaf, Alberta Deaf Sports Association and Alberta Cultural Society of the Deaf.
